The industrial history of stainless steel can be traced back to the late 19th century. The following are important milestones in the development of the stainless steel industry:

**1800s**

* In 1821, French chemist Pierre Berthier discovered chromium's anti-corrosion properties.

In 1872, British engineer Robert Forester Mushet discovered that chromium added to steel could improve its corrosion resistance.

**1900s**

* In 1904, French chemist Leon Guillet discovered that adding chromium and nickel to steel improved its corrosion resistance and high temperature properties.

* In 1908, British engineer Philip Monnartz developed the first stainless Steel material, called "Rustless Steel".

**1910s**

* In 1911, British engineer Harry Brearley developed the first commercial Stainless Steel material, called "stainless steel", in his Sheffield laboratory.

* In 1912, Brearley founded Firth-Vickers, which began mass production of stainless steel materials.

**1920s**

In the 1920s, stainless steel began to be used in industrial production, such as the manufacture of chemical equipment, boilers and medical devices.

* In 1924, the Allegheny Steel Company in the United States began to produce stainless steel materials.

**1930s**

* In the 1930s, stainless steel began to be used in the construction industry, such as making stair railings, doors and Windows, and other architectural ornaments.

* In 1932, the Union Carbide Company in the United States developed the first stainless steel solder.

**1940s**

* In the 1940s, stainless steel began to be used in the aviation industry, such as in the manufacture of aircraft parts and other aviation equipment.

* In 1947, Carpenter Technology Corporation in the United States developed the first high-temperature stainless steel material.

**1950s**

In the 1950s, stainless steel began to be used in the nuclear industry, for example in the manufacture of nuclear reactors and other nuclear equipment.

In 1953, Allegheny Ludlum Corporation in the United States developed the first ferritic stainless steel material.

**1960s**

* In the 1960s, stainless steel materials began to be used in the food industry, such as manufacturing food processing equipment and containers.

In 1965, the Krueger Company in the United States developed the first duplex stainless steel material.

Since the 1960s, the application field of stainless steel materials has been expanding, including construction, automotive, medical, food processing and other industries. Today, stainless steel materials have become an integral part of modern industry.
